Bills Mock Draft: Patrick Mahomes Stopper? Buffalo Selects Clemson DE Myles Murphy

The Buffalo Bills selected Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy in NFL Network insider Peter Schrager's 2023 mock draft.

The Buffalo Bills are just nine days away from being on the clock at No. 27 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft

As such, mock drafts are coming at a furious rate - the latest of which is from NFL Network's Peter Schrager, who released his first predictions of the cycle on Tuesday.

Based fully on what he's heard, Schrager's mock has the Bills drafting Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy, with an eye towards the steep competition around the AFC.

"Buffalo adds another young pass rusher to an already-deep rotation," Schrager writes. "If the Bills are going to compete with Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow over the next decade, they can't stop adding to that D-line."

The Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs ended the Bills' Super Bowl hopes in 2020 and 2021, while Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals did the same this past season.

In this instance, there's belief that Murphy can help be a part of the solution that gets Buffalo over the top.

The 6-5, 276-pound Murphy had 17.5 sacks across three seasons at Clemson and earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2022.

Murphy, 21, was viewed as a five-star recruit out of high school by many outlets. He parlayed the recruiting buzz into being named a Freshman All-American for the Tigers after logging 10.5 tackles for loss.

This past season, the Marietta, Ga., native had six and a half sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 34 pressures and 21 hurries.

It's quite possible that Murphy is long gone by the time Buffalo's ready to make a selection - but if not, he's a strong value pick who could vastly outplay his draft slot.

And perhaps most importantly, may just be the piece needed to help the Bills make it out of the AFC next season.
