Stefon Diggs Cowboys Trade? ESPN Host Calls For Bills to Deal Star WR

ESPN host of the show "Get Up!" Mike Greenberg wants the Buffalo Bills to trade receiver Stefon Diggs to the Dallas Cowboys.

Rumor season is in full swing, and for a second straight season, the Buffalo Bills potentially trading Stefon Diggs is among the moves being talked about.

Mike Greenberg, the host of ESPN's show "Get Up!" revealed his wish list of things he wants to see happen this offseason, and he has Buffalo trading Diggs to the Dallas Cowboys.

"It is clearly over in Buffalo," Greenberg said. "I don't know why, but it is. So, why not unite him with his brother in Dallas? The Cowboys desperately need a who can do exactly what Stefon Diggs can do. I don't know that he's a No. 1 receiver anymore even though people keep trying to tell me that he is. They have one in CeeDee Lamb. He could be the missing piece to an offense that needs to take another step late in the season."

Diggs' relationship with the Bills appears to be on less than steady ground. His comments at the Pro Bowl point to him being content with whichever direction the Bills decide to go, which isn't the most convincing answer when he had a chance to say he plans on being in Buffalo next season.

Diggs had 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns, though his production dipped considerably in the second half of the season with Joe Brady as the offensive coordinator. His last touchdown came in Week 12, and from that point forward, he caught 34 passes for 287 yards in the Bills' final seven games, including the playoffs.

In Diggs' four seasons in Buffalo, he has 445 catches for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns, and he has made the first-team All-Pro and four Pro-Bowl appearances.

Even if a divorce is best for both parties, making a deal work will be difficult. The Bills are currently $55 million over the cap, according to OverTheCap, and they need to get under that number before the start of the new league year on March 13. Trading Diggs before June 1st would save the Bills nearly $8 million against the cap, but their best path to getting under the cap is restructuring his contract to clear even more cap space, which he would have to agree to.

Trading Diggs after June 1st would save Buffalo nearly $23 million against the cap, but if the Bills are going to move the receiver, they would much rather it be done earlier so they can get draft picks that they could potentially use toward filling the void of his absence.

The Cowboys have cap issues of their own, as they're $21.5 million over the cap and have to figure out what they plan on doing with quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb's contracts, as they're both set to be free agents next offseason.

If it was as simple as trading players and picks straight up with no cap space to worry about, the odds of Diggs uniting with his brother, Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, would be much more likely. That isn't the case, though, and because of that, a potential deal bringing the Bills receiver to the Cowboys will likely stay on Greenberg's wish list.
