'They're Trying to Ruin Our Season!' Josh Allen on Buffalo Bills Rematch with New England Patriots

It is quite clear what the Buffalo Bills are doing here as the calendar is about to flip from 2023, a year in which so far they are 9-6 and busy keeping pace in the AFC Wild Card race. Anybody can see that.

But what are the New England Patriots doing here? Josh Allen says he can see that as well.

"Frankly, it’s a game that we need to win,'' the Bills QB said of Sunday's NFL Week 17 visit from the Pats. "And they know that. We know that. If I’m in the New England Patriots locker room, I’m looking to ruin their season.''

New England is shy of much other motivation; The Patriots are 4-11, might be under the guidance of a lame-duck legend in coach Bill Belichick, and might be wise to accept the NFL Draft-related benefits of defeat.

But there is also some history here.

The Pats' 29-25 win over the Bills back in October stands as one of the "upsets of the year.'' To the Bills, that loss should create some level of respect for the AFC East rival as Buffalo - presently in the No. 5 slot in the playoff race - now tries to simply split the season series with them.

“The fact that we lost Game 1 tells you we’ve got to put our best stuff out in the field, or we’re not going to win this game,” Allen said of the coming 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Highmark Stadium. “So, they’re going to be ready to go. I can guarantee you that. That in turn makes us have to be ready to go, as well.”
