Bills' Tre'Davious White garners AFC defensive player of the week honors

It ended up being the biggest play of the game.

With five minutes left in the 3rd quarter, and Miami clinging to a 14-9 lead, Tre'Davious White picked off Ryan Fitzpatrick on the Buffalo two yard line.

It was a pivotal drive for Miami, which ate up the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Veteran quarterback, and familiar face to Buffalo, Fitzpatrick admitted the play "killed their momentum a little bit" following the loss.

The turnover ignited a spark for Buffalo, who responded by driving 98 yards and scoring a go ahead touchdown - giving them a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the game.

He didn't stop there.

Midway through the fourth quarter, White forced a fumble on Miami receiver Preston Williams. Jerry Hughes recovered the loose ball and carried it to the Miami 16 yard line.

The Bills scored on that drive, too - Josh Allen to Cole Beasley.

Buffalo finished with 22 points in the fourth quarter and won 31-21, improving to 5-1 on the season.

White shined in the game, finishing with five tackles - and was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Wednesday - an honor he credited to his dedication to game prep.

"I go in my basement and watch film for hours and hours," White said. "Just trying to get tails on a team and watch receivers and taking notes. My film study sets me up for success."

The pick was White's third of the season - he intercepted Andy Dalton twice in a week three victory over the Bengals. He has nine interceptions during his three year career with Buffalo.

As a team, the Bills defense ranks third overall behind New England and San Francisco, respectively. White's three interceptions rank second best in the league - where he is tied with seven other players. Patriots safety Devin McCourty leads the league with five picks.
