4 Positions the Broncos Could “Double Up” On in the 2024 Draft

The Denver Broncos now stand a month away from the 2024 NFL Draft.

It's no secret that the Denver Broncos are going into rebuild mode after trading Russell Wilson and making other vital trades and releases. Post-free agency frenzy, the Broncos didn’t make any huge splashes outside of signing former Miami Dolphins safety Brandon Jones to a 3-year $20M contract. Denver still has several areas of its roster that need an injection of talent, and with the draft just one month away, they’ll have their opportunity to do so.

Four positions, in particular, could benefit from having multiple young players selected to their room. Let’s look at which positions the Broncos could double up on in next month's draft.

Wide Receiver

The Broncos have retained wideouts Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Tim Patrick, Lil’Jordan Humphery, and Brandon Johnson as their core group. Outside of Sutton and Mims, this group isn’t the most inspiring. Patrick has had back-to-back season-ending injuries in training camp, and Humphrey and Johnson haven’t made a significant enough impact to solidify them on the roster.

The 2024 draft is rich with wide receiver talent through every round. No matter who is commanding the offense for the Broncos, they’ll need multiple weapons to keep it churning. Right now, the wide receiver room has multiple bodies but not multiple difference-makers. Throwing a couple of darts at wideout may prove to be an excellent decision for Denver.

Tight End

Denver’s tight-end depth chart is infinitely more woeful than its wide receivers'. The Broncos have injury-prone Greg Dulcich, Adam “definition of mediocrity” Trautman, and two unproven young men, Lucas Krull and Nate Adkins. None of these men can be trusted to be the safety blanket a quarterback needs to succeed in the NFL. While there’s not as much top-end talent at the tight end this year, the Broncos need several additions to the room, and grabbing two isn’t out of the question.

Interior Defensive Line

The most significant detriment to Denver’s success on defense has been their defensive line. Zach Allen was the only bright spot on the interior, but the severe lack of help hindered him. For now, it seems DJ Jones is sticking around, and Matt Henningsen is listed as the starter opposite Allen. This group got bullied in the run game and struggled to generate any pressure up the middle. The Broncos signed defensive tackle Malcolm Roach to help with the run game, but that won’t be enough to turn this unit around. Using multiple picks to shore up the line may be how this draft cycle goes.

Interior Offensive Line

After losing Lloyd Cushnberry to the Tennessee Titans in free agency and Ben Powers underperforming in 2023, the Broncos need to seriously consider adding more than one man to their interior in the draft. Even if the Broncos feel comfortable with Alex Forsyth and Powers, they’ll need to bolster their depth should either man fail to perform. There are several options at center and guard throughout the draft, and Sean Payton is known for selecting offensive line early and often.

The Broncos have plenty of options entering the 2024 draft. While using multiple picks at the same positions may seem counterintuitive on the surface, they will likely pull the trigger on at least one of the four positions listed above.
