Report: Broncos Make More Roster Cuts Ahead of Rookie Camp
With rookie minicamp coming on Saturday, the Denver Broncos have made a few roster cuts. On Thursday, Denver waived offensive tackle Casey Tucker, but it only foreshadowed two more cuts.
9NEWS' Mike Klis reported on Friday that the Broncos waived running back Tyriek McAllister and offensive guard Parker Ferguson.
To make roster room, Broncos today waived Parker Ferguson, offensive guard from Air Force, and RB Tyriek McAllister per team's updated roster," Klis tweeted.
These cuts were, in part, precipitated by the 15 college free-agent signings the Broncos made following the NFL draft. Among this year's crop of undrafted rookies, Denver signed Princeton guard Henry Byrd, and two running backs — Youngstown State's Jaleel McLaughlin and Fort Valley State's Emanuel Wilson.
The Broncos signed McAllister as a college free agent out of Division II Charleston last year. He competed in training camp before a hamstring injury landed him on injured reserve. He was waived/injured in August and re-signed to the practice squad in November.
As for Ferguson, he was signed to the practice squad last December. Previously, the Air Force product had spent time with two other NFL clubs before landing in Denver.
Under new head coach Sean Payton, it's possible this trio of players waived this week simply didn't fit into his grand plan for the offense. Such is often the fate for bubble players hanging on to the bottom of the roster for dear life. Here's to hoping they each land on their feet.
The Broncos also signed two veteran running backs in free agency — Samaje Perine and Tony Jones, Jr — and drafted Oregon interior O-lineman Alex Forsyth in the seventh round.
