Justin Simmons Gets Testy With Reporters in Defense of Vance Joseph

Justin Simmons didn't take kindly to certain Vance Joseph questions.

In the Denver Broncos' 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the defense allowed 726 yards. In the first half, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa did not have an incompletion, ending the game with more touchdowns than incompletions. Ouch...

It was evident that the Broncos were missing several of their starters on defense last week. There were numerous missed assignments on the field, defenders out of position, and poor tackling galore.

One of the Broncos' most notable defenders that was missed was All-Pro safety Justin Simmons, who was out due to a hip injury. Although his presence probably would not have changed the game’s outcome, the Broncos could have used Simmons’ experience and football expertise to make a few more defensive stops in crucial moments.

On Wednesday, Simmons was asked about his belief in defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. At first, things became a little intense between Simmons and the reporter.

“What are you trying to get from that question? I guess is what I’m trying to ask," Simmons said. "I think that question is trying to pin a certain narrative against the defense and whatever people think is being called and with Coach Joseph.”

Simmons then expressed his feelings regarding the Dolphins game, showing support for Joseph.

“I’m not up here throwing a fit and cussing and showing a bunch of emotions, but it hurt, and that was embarrassing to just be a part of, and by no means does that fall under the spectrum of one person, though," Simmons said. "Coach Joseph, I believe in him. I believe in his staff. I believe in the players that we have in the room, and one game doesn't minimize or maximize what a selective group is made of.”

Simmons is questionable for the Broncos' Week 4 matchup vs. the Chicago Bears, but if there's ever a time for a 'get-right' game, it's now. The true test will be how the Broncos respond to this adversity.

To secure its first win on Sunday, Denver needs to keep the same prideful, almost angry energy Simmons had at the podium in defense of Joseph.
