GAMEDAY Open Thread: Broncos vs. Falcons | Preseason Game 1

After what felt like forever, the Denver Broncos are finally returning to the field. Tonight the Broncos will battle the Atlanta Falcons in the Hall of Fame Game — the first of five preseason games.

We've had a gameday open thread going on every game dating back to 2014, so even though I'm still figuring out this new platform, there's no way I'd skip out on one here.

Vic Fangio was taken to the hospital on Thursday with a kidney stone but reportedly plans to coach in this game. Let's have ourselves a lively and engaging conversation!

First quarter

Broncos O-line moving bodies. 

Khalfani Muhammad and Devontae Jackson looking like Phillip Lindsay clones almost. 

Juwann Winfree with a drop. 

Noah Fant with a drop. 

Muhammad scores. McManus' EP good. 7-0

Malik Reed with the first sack of the Broncos' summer. 

Brendan Langley muffs punt return. Falcons recover. 

Second quarter

G.Tavecchio misses from 54 yards out. 

Drew Lock debuts. 3-and-out. 

Lock with no compunction about throwing deep. Two shots in three passes. 

Lock scrambles to pick up first down, slides, draws the flag for late hit. 

Lock sacked on consecutive plays. Holding onto it a little long, though on the second sack, he faced immediate interior pressure. 

Fangio throws challenge flag on massive pass interference flag. Loses challenge.

Lock gets ball deep in his own territory. Two-minute drill? Not really. Run after run, including a holding call on Noah Fant and a delay of game on Lock. 

Benkert passes to Hill for Falcons' one-yard score as second quarter closes. 

Ensuing possession, Lock completes to Steven Dunbar, Jr., who promptly fumbles. 

End of half. 

Third quarter

Falcons get points. 12 plays, 56 yards that culminates in a 27-yard FG. 

Falcons take the lead 10-7. 

Hill flagged for lowering the head as ball-carrier. 

Muhammad with a 31-yard jaunt. Explosive runner. 

Fourth quarter

Broncos driving on heels of Muhammad big play. 4th-&-1 at midfield. Not just stuffed but brutally stopped behind the LOS. 

Shamarko Thomas with a sack on the nickel blitz. 

Brett Rypien takes the field with 11:49 to go in fourth quarter. 

Trey Johnson with the INT, ending a Falcons drive. And giving Rypien the ball in plus territory. 

After hold on fourth down inside the 5-yard line, Broncos go for it from almost the 20. 

Rypien throws it up in the right corner and it's initially broken up, ball pops up and Juwann  Winfree comes down with it, both feet down, for the go-ahead score.

Broncos win 14-10.
