Broncos' FA Deal With OG Ben Powers: Contract Details & Grade

In this story:
The Denver Broncos have been more active in free agency than they have in some time, making multiple moves early in the NFL's 'legal tampering' period.
I'm going to examine the contract breakdown for each new Bronco as the details are revealed. Let's look at Denver's deal for offensive guard Ben Powers, who spent the past four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
Contract Details
Summary: Four years, $51.5M, with $27M fully guaranteed.
Breakdown
- 2023: $13M signing bonus, $2M base salary (fully guaranteed)
- 2024: $12M base salary (fully guaranteed)
- 2025: $11.419M base salary, $510K per game roster bonus, $1.5M is guaranteed on March 20, 2025
- 2026: $11.99M base salary, $510K per game roster bonus.
Cap charges: $5.25M for 2023, $15.25M in 2024 and 2025, and $15.75M in 2026.
Gut Reaction
This is a reasonable deal for an offensive guard who has received more starts over the years and has improved with each season. It's a moderately-priced contract, which was a good thing after Atlanta gave Chris Lindstrom a massive five-year, $105M contract before free agency began.
In terms of cash flow, Powers collects more than half the money in the first two years. The Broncos, meanwhile, could get out of the deal by cutting him after two seasons or trading him next season.
Powers should be an upgrade at left guard over Dalton Risner, who played well at times but was inconsistent in recent years. I consider Powers a good deal for the Broncos.
Contract Grade: B+
