Amari Cooper On The Cusp Of Cleveland Browns' History

Cleveland's top wideout Amari Cooper is on the cusp of making franchise history in a season where his value has been on full display in an offense that's battled injuries and inconsistencies

Amari Cooper is 15 yards away from eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards this season.

If he can get there, he will be the first Browns' receiver to ever have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in the franchise's history.

Webster Slaughter, Ozzie Newsome, Paul Warfield, Braylon Edwards, Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry are just some of the names that Cooper could surpass with this feat.

Yes, it's abnormal in today's NFL for a team to have never had a receiver post consecutive 1000-yard seasons, but as this fan base is well aware, the Browns have navigated some dismal years, especially since 1999, to get to where they are today. For Cooper to be the first wideout to do it for this franchise, says a lot about his ability, but also about how far this organization has come.

In Cooper's two seasons in Cleveland, he has caught passes from five different quarterbacks. Last year it was a mix between Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett. While, this season has featured a quarterback carousel manning the Browns offense.

Watson, PJ Walker, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Joe Flacco have each made multiple starts this season. The inconsistency has been unlike anything the NFL has ever seen, but Cooper continues to just show up and show out.

The 29-year-old has posted at least one 100-yard game with three out of the four QBs this year. In Week 3, Cooper and Watson seemed to find their stride and they hooked up for 116 yards and a touchdown. Two week later – and with Watson sidelined – Cooper and Walker clicked for 105 yards against the 49ers. He mixed in a 139-yard game against the Cardinals with Watson back under center and he put an exclamation on his season in a 20-17 win over Chicago where he had 109 yards with Flacco under center.

He has done all this fighting through numerous injuries. and now he has a chance on Sunday to etch his name in the Cleveland Browns history books forever.

In a year that has seen so much inconsistency, No. 2 has seemed to be there every week and the Browns have needed every single yard. They'll certainly need more of the same if the team can finish off this regular season with a trip to the playoffs.
