Browns Ownership Sends Message To Nick Chubb Following His Retirement

In this story:
Nick Chubb is back in the news and unfortunately, it's not because he is making a triumphant return to the Cleveland Browns. Instead, he has announced his retirement from the NFL.
Chubb is calling it a career at the age of 30 and starting the next chapter of life. That chapter will involve plenty of praise from his former team.
Browns send a message to Nick Chubb following his retirement
JW Johnson, Jimmy Haslam's son-in-law and part of the Browns ownership group, appeared on the pregame show before Saturday's preseason matchup against the Buffalo Bills. He spoke directly to Chubb about the organization's plans to honor the running back.

"Hell of a career, we're excited to get him back here and have him retire as a Brown as he rightfully should," Johnson said. "Nick, if you're watching and listening we're excited to get you back and get you back here as a Brown."
Chubb has been retired for less than a full 24 hours and the Browns are making it clear they want him to be involved with the team moving forward. That is fantastic to see and makes perfect sense given how hard he worked during his seven seasons in Cleveland.
The running back spent the 2025 season with the Houston Texans and to plenty of Browns fans, the sight of him in a different jersey just felt weird. Now that he is retiring the Browns can claim him as one of their own once again.
The Haslams have not had much success on the field during their ownership tenure. However, they do seem to care and making a statement on Chubb right away is a nice gesture.
Chubb had four consecutive Pro Bowl seasons from 2019-2022. He ran for over 1,000 yards in each of those seasons and was playing at an All-Pro level. That unfortunately all changed in 2023 after he took a low hit from Minkah Fitzpatrick that led to a season-ending knee injury.
Chubb's success came to a crashing halt, but he is retiring both young and healthy. He can now focus on his next chapter and perhaps being an active member of the Browns alumni. It would not be shocking for him to be honored in 2026 and perhaps with a permanent item like a statue when the new stadium opens in a few years.
If anything, the Chubb conversation is a nice distraction from the quarterback competition that may never end.
