Julian Edelman Says Tom Brady Asked Him If He Would Join Buccaneers

Tom Brady tried to get another one of his New England teammates to Tampa Bay, but he wasn't successful.

Tom Brady's stint in Tampa Bay was somewhat notorious for its inclusion of former New England Patriots players, and according to one of his teammates in New England, he almost added another.

Former Patriots wideout Julian Edelman recently spoke on Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby's Podcast, The Rush, and talked about Brady's departure from New England. While doing so, he revealed a fun little tidbit — that Brady had asked him if he wanted to come to Tampa Bay with him after leaving the Patriots in 2019. Edelman appreciated the offer, but nonetheless, he chose to stay in Boston.

“He hit me up when he left, and he goes, ‘Hey babe, you want me to get you down here?’, Edelman said on the podcast. “I was like, no, I’m good, man. I’m a one-team man.”

Edelman would have joined former Patriots player Rob Gronkowski, but he also likely would have ran into a bit of a crowded receivers room. The Bucs had Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown on the team when 2020 came around, so Edelman may have had a bit of a hard time finding a place to fit in when it came to the Bucs specifically.

Nonetheless, it's fairly impressive that Edelman stuck to his guns and stayed with the Patriots, playing one more season with them before retiring at the end of the 2020 season.
