Buccaneers’ Todd Bowles Comments on Lessons Learned in Week 6 Loss to Detroit Lions

In this story:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a massive underdog victory over last year’s Super Bowl runner-ups the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bucs never let up in Monday night’s Wild Card game as they never once fell behind against the Eagles en route to a convincing 32-9 win.
Tampa Bay knew who their opponent would be if they indeed won against Philadelphia prior to the game - a rematch against their week six opponent the Detroit Lions.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Open as Significant Underdog to Detroit Lions
When the Bucs and Lions first met this season the Buccaneers were in the middle of their struggles and couldn’t get much going only mustering 6 total points in their 14-point loss that saw Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown both put up gaudy numbers.
On Tuesday, Buccaneers’ head coach Todd Bowles spoke about what stuck out to him about the team’s 20-6 home loss to the Lions earlier in the season.
"We were where we were at that time of year. I don't wish we had done anything differently — we wouldn't have learned from it. Very good team. They have a very good team, coach very well — very fast, [and] very physical. The electric crowd is going to be up there. [I] wish we hadn't done anything different, because we wouldn't have learned from it with any of our losses from that matter. We're a different team now. We're mentally tougher. We've gotten stronger from it, and we learned some things. We're still piecing it together, but we're happy with where we're at."
The Buccaneers are indeed a much different team than they showed themselves to be early on the year in week six of the NFL season. They have shown growth and become one team, showing mental fortitude and fight along the way.
Bowles again was questioned about the week six matchup against the Lions, this time whether or not there were any lessons learned.
"There [are] no lessons in losing but losing. You learn situational things that come with it, but that's really about it."
There are always lessons learned, but Bowles is right. You ultimately want to put those type of games behind you and not allow them to dwell on your mind - something that could ultimately set you back further mentally when it comes to preparation for things to come.
