Buccaneers Trade Veteran Guard to Houston Texans

In this story:
On Monday, it was reported that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were exploring trade possibilities for veteran offensive guard, Shaq Mason, or if they were unable to find a trade partner the team would release Mason to help the Bucs create more salary cap room.
It didn't take the Buccaneers long to find a trade partner for Mason, as he will now be headed to play for the Houston Texans.
It's a late-round pick swap, a 6th rounder for a 7th rounder, in the trade of Shaq Mason. https://t.co/MHlxteQhE9

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers originally acquired Mason from the New England Patriots last season to try and help along a much-maligned offensive line and add some familiarity for Tom Brady.

Brady has since retired and the Buccaneers are moving along in a different direction. The trade of Mason to the Texans will help save the Buccaneers some salary cap money to try and make some moves during free agency. The Buccaneers only gave up a fifth-round draft pick for Mason last season, so getting a sixth and seventh-rounder from the Texans in the trade makes this move not hurt as much instead of the alternative of releasing him.
Mason is a well-rounded veteran guard entering his seventh season out of Georgia Tech and should fill a nice role with a Texans team once again looking to rebuild. Mason was injured for portions of last season, so if he is healthy he should provide plenty for the Texans' team that will seemingly rely heavily on their run game in 2023.
