Carolina Panthers Poach Two Long-Tenured Buccaneers Assistant Coaches

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator and now head coach of the Carolina Panthers Dave Canales has started to put together his coaching staff. While it is expected that Bucs wide receivers coach Brad Idzik will be named his offensive coordinator, he has not agreed to terms with the organization yet. However, he's not the only one joining Canales in Carolina.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and Carmen Vialti of Fox Sports have reported that Buccaneers assistant head coach and run game coordinator Harold Goodwin and offensive line coach Joe Gilbert will also be making the move north to join Canales' staff.

The pair joined the Bucs coaching staff in 2019 under former head coach Bruce Arians. Goodwin began coaching in the NFL in 2004 with the Bears but later coached for the Steelers, Colts, and Cardinals all part of a staff with Bruce Arians. Gilbert began his NFL coaching career as a part of Arians staff in 2012.

The Bucs' rushing attack has ranked dead last in each of the last two seasons. And while there were improvements in the latter half of the season the team still struggled to find consistency in the run game. With a new offensive coordinator on the horizon, the vacancies now allow them to fill the offensive staff with an offensive line coach and a wide receivers coach of their choosing. And a hope that the Bucs running game will improve in 2024 and beyond.
