Cardinals Named Trade Candidate for All-Pro Running Back

The Arizona Cardinals need another reliable body to help James Conner.

The Arizona Cardinals will rely on the talents of running back James Conner quite often this season.

Conner - when healthy - has proven to be a strong addition to the desert, helping keep the balance in Arizona's offense attack.

The Cardinals were able to accomplish a number of things this offseason, but many believe the team still needs to find a suitable running mate to Conner to help shoulder some of the load.

That could come in the form of the NFL's leading rusher - Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs. CBS Sports says the Cardinals are one of a handful of teams that make sense as a trade partner.

"Technically he's locked in for 2023 under the franchise tag, but that doesn't mean the Raiders wouldn't field -- or solicit -- interest in the event a future long-term deal is unlikely," said Cody Benjamin.

"Coach Josh McDaniels, remember, hails from the Patriots system that deploys multiple backs, even if he did lean heavily on Jacobs in 2022. And the veteran teased dissatisfaction with the current regime after Darren Waller's exit this offseason. Moving the 25-year-old workhorse would instantly save Vegas $10M."

The Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks were the other two teams mentioned as potential landing spots.

Frankly put, it wouldn't make much sense to bring Jacobs on. The last thing the Cardinals need to do during a rebuild is acquire a big name running back, especially when they already have a major runner already in the backfield.

Jacobs is talented - no doubts. But giving up any sort of draft capital for a running back (especially since the position has essentially devalued) shouldn't be in Arizona's plans.
