Veteran QB Labeled Trade Candidate for Cardinals

If the Arizona Cardinals are looking to upgrade their quarterback position, Ryan Tannehill could be an option.

We're now at the point of the offseason where teams across the league mostly have their rosters set, and the Arizona Cardinals are no different. They'll have a few months before being forced to trim their roster down to the final 53 ahead of the regular season, and while big names such as Budda Baker and DeAndre Hopkins could very well depart, the Cardinals are comfortable either way in the first year of their rebuild.

With Kyler Murray rehabbing from ACL surgery back in January, the Cardinals will be on a wait-and-see basis with Murray through the early portions of the regular season. Nobody knows when Arizona can expect their franchise quarterback's return, though the current quarterback depth behind him doesn't exactly give confidence to hold the fort down until he returns (whenever that may be).

CBS Sports says they know just the man for the job, suggesting Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill as a potential trade candidate for the Cardinals following the 2023 NFL Draft, where Arizona added fifth-round pick Clayton Tune to go along with Colt McCoy and David Blough.

"Tannehill is more likely to sit tight as a placeholder in Tennessee on the final year of his contract, but at a steep salary, with the Titans just trading up to draft Will Levis at No. 33 overall, it's very possible the team could solicit offers for its incumbent starter," Cody Benjamin.

"Coach Mike Vrabel hasn't committed to Tannehill being on the roster come Week 1, and while the Titans would certainly be more likely to contend for another playoff run if he stays, it's clear new general manager Ran Carthon is thinking about the future."

This is only a move the Cardinals should make if they're absolutely sold on trying to compete this season, which would contradict much of what they've done this offseason. Tannehill is due $27 million in salary for the upcoming season and hasn't exactly looked worthy of the price, hence why the Titans are shopping him.

Arizona was listed as logical landing spots along with the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons.
