Cowboys-Cardinals Week 3 Picks Against The Spread
The Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys are both 2-0 against the spread entering their Week 3 duel in the desert - and something will have to give.
Dallas got up to as much as 12.5-point favorites in this matchup, good enough for the second biggest spread of the week. According to ESPN, the Cardinals are the sixth team in the last 30 years to start 0-2 despite covering in both games.
An overwhelming majority of people expect the Cowboys to cover, though one site did have Arizona sneaking their way to winning, at least against the spread:
Covers: Cowboys -12
Jason Logan: "Perhaps the biggest threat to Prescott and the Cowboys offense is on the sidelines for the immediate future, with standout safety Budda Baker on the IR due to a hamstring injury. Arizona enters the week with additional injuries on the defensive side of the ball with DEs Leki Fotu and Carlos Watkins dinged up as well as LB Josh Woods.
"The Cards are out of their depth in Week 3, especially if the Cowboys' offense lets it rip after two weeks of conservative playcalling. The Dallas defense will give the offense plenty of time with the football to cover this sizable spread and may even help out on the scoreboard."
DraftKings: Cowboys -11.5
Spencer Limbach: "Though the Cardinals have been surprisingly competitive this season and had legitimate chances to win both games, they face a daunting task against the Cowboys. Dallas’ elite defense is likely to create turnovers and advantageous field position, potentially triggering a snowball effect of points similar to what we’ve seen in their first two games. Despite the large point spread, the smart bet appears to be on the Cowboys."
The Athletic: Cowboys -12.5
Vic Tafur: "The Cardinals have shocked the world by being competitive thus far — a competitive 0-2 — and I don’t know if the 2-0 Cowboys will be excited about this matchup. But it doesn’t matter. The Cowboys are so much more talented and should control the line of scrimmage on offense and defense. You’ll be siding with the dreaded public on this one (who the heck wants to back Joshua Dobbs?) but … even a bored lion feasts on a plucky, awkward zebra by the end of four 15-minute chase sessions."
Pro Football Network: Pass
Brian Blewis: "Unlike Weeks 1 and 2, I’m not expecting the Cardinals to have a lead at halftime.
"I can’t stomach taking them against the spread after how they rolled over in the second half against the Giants last week (still covered), but it seems too easy to take the Cowboys here. Pass on this one."
Bleacher Report: Cardinals +12
Brad Gagnon: "This isn't necessarily a trap game for the Cowboys, but after two huge wins, I could see them looking past the Cardinals and ahead to New England and San Francisco. The Cards should have beaten the Giants at home last week and should be able to keep this respectable. Throw in backdoor-cover possibilities in Glendale, Arizona, and I'm feeling decent about this one."
