Cardinals Safety Chris Banjo Announces Retirement From NFL

Arizona Cardinals safety Chris Banjo is calling it quits, as he officially announced on Twitter.

The Arizona Cardinals are losing a handful of people to retirement this offseason.

While J.J. Watt will be the biggest name to go, another player in Rodney Hudson has speculation around him potentially hanging it up.

As far as speculation goes, there's no need for that with Chris Banjo. On his 33rd birthday, he announced on Twitter he is officially calling it quits.

Banjo first began his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars after going undrafted in 2012 out of SMU. He spent time with the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints before landing with the Cardinals in 2019.

Banjo started just five games in his time with Arizona, playing behind one of the better safety duos in the league in Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson. However, he did mold himself into a crucial special teams player in his four years in the desert with snap percentages of 80%, 48%, 76% and 81%.

Banjo is now set to immediately join the coaching staff of the Denver Broncos under Sean Payton as a special teams coach. Banjo previously played under Payton during their time together in New Orleans.
