Chargers Announce 2023 Team Captains

The 2023 captains have been announced for the Bolts!

The NFL season is here, and that means that team captains are rolling out for every team in the league.

Team captains are not just the best players on the team but also leaders in the locker room and high-character individuals who garner respect from their peers on and off the field.

Those qualifications are met with the nine captains announced for the 2023 Los Angeles Chargers.

Star NFL players make this list with players like Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, Derwin James, and Khalil Mack.

All these players are well-respected players throughout the league and throughout the locker room.

Newcomer Eric Kendricks makes team captain as the starting middle linebacker enters his first year with the Chargers after having eight incredible years in Minnesota with the Vikings.

Kendricks made Pro Bowl and All-Pro 1st Team with the Vikings in 2019, and with a strong 2023 in Los Angeles, Kendricks will most likely hit the career milestone of 1,000 career tackles.

Charger veterans like Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, Derwin James, and Justin Herbert are looking to lead this team once again and hopefully have some better regular season success than previous years.

Allen is already entering his 11th season with the team with an incredible career. With a strong 2023, Allen can possibly hit 10,000 career receiving yards. That would put him 2nd All-Time in Chargers history behind Antonio Gates' 11,841 yards.

Austin Ekeler was having contract disputes this offseason, but that won't stop him from stepping up for the team and leading the backfield like he has been the last few years.

Herbert enters his 4th season and has more weapons than ever. This year, he looks to command the offense and challenge the Chiefs for the AFC West title.

Being a captain is more than having a patch stitched on your jersey; it means you are the face of the team and one that others look up to in time of need or in big moments, and with a strong 2023, the Charger will have a lot of big moments.
