Chargers News: Easton Stick's Confidence Has Built Despite Limited Playing Time

LA's 2019 draft pick confidence has come a long way

The Los Angeles Chargers scored their first preseason victory, 34-17, after a solid showing by all three facets of the team. Unlike regular season games, starters took a backseat in this one, letting rookies, undrafted talents, and depth players seize the spotlight. One standout was backup quarterback Easton Stick, LA's 2019 fifth-round QB pick. He got the nod and shone brightly.

Even though he doesn't log a ton of minutes on the field, you wouldn't guess it, even after his first two pass attempts that were to forget.

Stick owned his role and rocked it. His growth has been a steady journey, navigating the pros while honing his craft behind their franchise quarterback, Justin Herbert.

In his chat with the media after Saturday's win, Stick shared how his confidence has grown, despite limited playtime.

“I think so,” Stick said when asked if he was a more confident player than last year or at any point since the Chargers drafted him in the fifth round out of North Dakota State in 2019. “Obviously, I haven’t played a ton, but just the experiences you have, being around, being in the meeting rooms, watching Justin play.

“It’s my fifth year here. My confidence has certainly grown.”

Stick has only played one game in his pro career, which came in 2020. He went in and completed one pass attempt for one completion for four yards. That's it.

Still, Stick has shown to be a constant pro, preparing his body and taking care of business, no matter his station.

In the start on Saturday, Stick went 14-for-21 for 109 yards, one touchdown, and a rating of 95.1. His start was shaking, but he ended up doing his part to put the Chargers over the top.

There's no chance he will overtake Herbert for the QB1 spot, but he can indeed take over the QB2 spot, and yesterday, he proved why.

Stick seems to be the right guy for the job, and we cannot wait to see how else he progresses this preseason.
