Mired in inconsistent and ineffective play, even with one of the most talented offenses in football, the Chargers gave their old offensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi, the boot in a move celebrated by many.

Replacing him in 2023 is former Cowboys offensive mind Kellen Moore, an addition that many have their eyes on with high hopes he's the man to turn this Bolts' offense into a truly electric unit.

"A lot of excitement going into the regular season," Moore said. "It's a long process of OTAs to training camp to preseason ball and now you finally feel like you're here and ready to roll. I'm really excited. I think everyone is ready to go," Moore later added. "I think everyone is just ready to play football. It's been a really good process, but training camp can be a long process and now we're here, so let's go."

With many LA fans clamoring for better usage of their rocket-armed quarterback Justin Herbert and vertical weapons in Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, Lombardi's previous system pigeonholed the unit to dinking and dunking for the short and intermediate games.

Deep passing was always a strength of Moore's system, and Dak Prescott's metrics in terms of yards per attempt should play very nicely with his new signal caller, Justin Herbert.

With a bevy of weapons at his disposal, the skill positions that will be in Moore's arsenal to dial up creative concepts should be nearly endless.

Welcoming in the former Boise State QB legend, the Chargers may have a legitimate shot to challenge for the AFC West crown in 2023.

Early signs that the Chiefs aren't the same this season have reared their ugly head in week 1, and LA has a chance to set an early tone against Miami this weekend.
