It was clear what the Los Angeles Chargers wanted to do come the 2023 NFL Draft, and they did just that, bolstering their wide receiver room by adding one of the best collegiate receivers from last season, TCU WR Quentin Johnston

Johnston's impact on his school's football program was undeniable, as he played a pivotal role in guiding TCU to their first-ever national championship appearance. LA kept a good eye on Johnston from the start of the NFL Draft process, but we learned it started even before the draft process.

In August, Chargers scout Mike Jasinski paid a visit to Fort Worth, where TCU is located. It was there that Jasinski first laid eyes on Johnston and was immediately impressed by his skills on the field. From that moment, Johnston's path to the Chargers started to take shape.

"I was talking to the strength coach off to the side, and they were just doing some routes on air and warming up," Jasinski recalled. "But out of the corner of my eye, I see a red-zone fade ball that Quentin goes up for. It felt like the guy was just levitating in the air.

"That was my first live exposure to him, and you felt it," Jasinski continued. "Guys that end up as first-round players, their movements just feel different. There's no doubt about it.

"The strength coach saw it, too," Jasinski added. "He had a wry smirk and just kind of said, 'Oh yeah, he can do that.' You see stuff on film but then you see that and it was just so effortless. It was just like, 'Wow, OK. This guy is different.' His explosiveness just really stood out."

And now here we are, Johnston was taken with the Bolts' first-round pick and is bound to make a great impact on the team. He is poised to make a significant impact alongside established receivers Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. With his remarkable athleticism and playmaking abilities, the 21-year-old is expected to provide a dynamic dimension to the Chargers' passing attack.

The young wide receiver's impressive performances at TCU caught the attention of the Chargers' scouting staff, and now he has the opportunity to showcase his skills alongside his fellow WR and star QB Justin Herbert. it;'s going to be a fun season to watch, and we can't wait to see how he fits into the team.
