Chargers Rumors: NFL Columnist Believes This Pro Bowl Tight End Could Elevate LA

Can never have too many weapons on offense.

Reeling from their recent playoff loss last January, the Chargers have reloaded their skill position groups in the draft after taking both Derius Davis and Quentin Johnston from TCU to help their receiving core.

However, one analyst stated that such additions still might be enough for recently extended QB Justin Herbert and suggested the team should go after another target from the NFC West.

The Los Angeles Chargers have a decent starting tight end in Gerald Everett, but he’s nothing more than a league-average player at this point in his career. The depth behind Everett leaves a lot to be desired, and Los Angeles needs as many weapons as possible seeing as they play in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs. The Panthers, meanwhile, are not set to compete in 2023, but they need somebody to catch passes. With DJ Chark reportedly battling injury, the team doesn’t have any reliable weapons in the passing game. The present-day version of Zach Ertz is probably a better player than Hayden Hurst, and he could be a nice safety blanket for rookie quarterback Bryce Young.

Ertz already has a Super Bowl title to his name with the Eagles in 2017, but he has since seen his previous form slip a bit from his Pro Bowl-caliber seasons after a trade to the Cardinals.

With Kyler Murray out for the majority of this season and many trades made for more draft capital, the Chargers would be wise to grab the veteran target, who likely wants to play for a contender at this point in his career.

Joining Keenan Allen and Mike Williams as veteran talents to an already star-studded group, Ertz into the mix for the Bolts would be quite the move to aid the team's divisional push.
