Report: KC Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Gave 'Unbelievable' Speech Prior to Super Bowl LVIII
The Kansas City Chiefs are just hours away from taking the field against the San Francisco 49ers, and the hype is undoubtedly building. That doesn't just apply to football fans, either, as Super Bowl LVIII has both teams excited to take the field.
Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce is apparently among those who are the most fired up for the biggest game of the year. Prior to the Super Bowl, the Chiefs held a bit of a team meeting in their hotel on Saturday night. In a morning tweet thread on X, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated revealed that Kelce's speech was so good that it led to some players crying:
"Chiefs coach Andy Reid had Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones address the team last night at the hotel," Breer posted. All were great. Kelce particularly so— 'Unbelievable' and 'powerful,' according to people in the room, to the point where some teammates were moved to tears."
This shouldn't really surprise anyone, as Kelce has emerged as one of the Chiefs' biggest leaders in recent years. The All-Pro pass catcher is an older player on the team, having been in the locker room since Reid took over back in 2013. During a challenging 2023-24 regular season, Kelce was oftentimes looked to for guidance and advice. His impact on the organization both on and off the field is undeniable.
In fact, Breer reports that a coach on Kansas City's staff thinks it's the best speech he's heard.
"Another coach got back to me on Travis Kelce’s address: 'Not even close,'" Breer tweeted. 'The best talk/speech I’ve ever heard.'"
In addition to Kelce, both Mahomes and Jones serve as added pillars of the franchise. Both are longstanding members of the team, with Jones now in his eighth season and Mahomes wrapping up year No. 7. The quartet of Reid, Kelce, Mahomes and Jones is frequently referred to as the Chiefs' championship core, so it's expected that multiple members of that group wanted to set the tone entering a critical matchup.
All week long, Kansas City has echoed that it's treating Super Bowl LVIII as a business trip. The media week craziness is a thing of the past, leaving only game day as something to lock in for. By all accounts, including Breer's, that focus is extremely sharp. Kelce and his teammates appear ready to take on the NFC's best team on Sunday, looking to capture their third championship in five seasons and cement a Chiefs dynasty in the process.
