KC Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Invest in Alpine Formula 1 Team

Kansas City's pair of superstar players join the Otro Capital investment group in helping expand the global Formula 1 footprint.

With the Kansas City Chiefs' 2023 season in full swing, the elite duo of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce is managing to make quite the impact on the field. Off the field, however, both players are also turning some heads for intriguing reasons.

On Tuesday morning, it was announced that Mahomes and Kelce became two of the newest investors in Formula 1 team Alpine Racing LTD. The duo joins Otro Capital's group which already consisted of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and now adds golf standout Rory McIlroy, soccer stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Juan Mata, as well as boxer Anthony Joshua. Back in June, Otro Capital was involved in a group that purchased a 24% stake in the team.

In total, the group has invested over $200 million in Alpine F1. Here's what Mahomes had to say about his latest business venture, per Business Wire

“I’ve always had a passion for all sports. The opportunity to lead an investor group with Travis in Alpine F1 alongside Otro Capital was one I couldn’t pass up. It’s an exciting time for the sport and this is an opportunity to bring our shared values to the world stage. I’m looking forward to being a part of its growth.”

Kelce also shared some thoughts on how excited he is to invest in the team:

“I am thrilled to lead an investor group and join forces with Patrick and the team at Otro Capital on this exciting venture with Alpine F1. Our shared passion for excellence and innovation forms the cornerstone of this partnership. It’s about being able to contribute to a sport that demands precision, teamwork, and relentless pursuit of success. I am looking forward to this new chapter and can’t wait to see what we achieve together.”

Per the aforementioned article, members of this investment team will be tasked with helping "drive global awareness for Alpine F1 and will further complement Otro Capital's contributions in areas such as media, sponsorship, ticketing, hospitality, commercial rights management, licensing and merchandising."

In recent years, Mahomes and Kelce have emerged as two of the most recognizable faces in the NFL. The former is a multi-time MVP winner and likely the best player in the sport, with the latter being the best at his position and helping work side-by-side with Mahomes to bring the Chiefs a pair of Super Bowls during their time together. 2023 has seen Kelce's popularity take off, as he's made multiple appearances on Saturday Night Live and is also dating singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Now, football's best duo takes on a new challenge and enters the Formula 1 world looking to help expand the brand of Alpine.
