KC Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Wins 2022 NFL MVP

Patrick Mahomes has won his second NFL MVP award, making him the 10th player in NFL history to repeat as Most Valuable Player.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has won his second AP NFL MVP award after being named the NFL's Most Valuable Player for the 2022 season at the NFL Honors award show.

In 2018, his first season as a starter, Mahomes went on to win his first MVP after throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns. Now, Mahomes is the 10th player in NFL history to win the NFL AP MVP award multiple times, joining Peyton Manning (five), Aaron Rodgers (four), Jim Brown (three), Johnny Unitas (three), Brett Favre (three), Tom Brady (three), Joe Montana (two), Steve Young (two) and Kurt Warner (two).

In 2022, Mahomes threw 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns, both leading the league. With the addition of his 358 rushing yards and six receiving yards, Mahomes totaled 5,614 all-purpose yards on the year, a new NFL single-season record.

Before Thursday night's NFL Honors, Mahomes had already begun to pile up the hardware, including the PFWA MVP from the Pro Football Writers of America.

Following the announcement, Mahomes appeared in a video accepting the award and thanking his family and teammates.

Mahomes's win was not unanimous, as he received 48 of 50 votes, with one vote going to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and one for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

The Chiefs tweeted out a video "from QB1's biggest supporters," including video tributes from teammates, his wife Brittany, Paul Rudd, Joe Montana, Eric Bieniemy and many more.

Earlier Thursday, Mahomes was asked about the possibility of winning his second MVP award, and he wasted no time deflecting praise to his teammates.

"It's not just me," Mahomes said. "In order to win the MVP, you have to be on a great team, and especially at the quarterback position, you have to have great players around you because you're throwing the football, but they gotta make the plays happen. As much as you take pride in winning that award for yourself, teams take pride in winning that award because it's a team award, really, in a sense."

Now, Mahomes and his teammates turn their attention back to Super Bowl LVII, where they'll take on the Eagles as Mahomes looks to add a second Lombardi Trophy and perhaps a second Super Bowl MVP to join his 2022 MVP award in the trophy case.
