Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson continues to impress at training camp. The rookie had one of his best practices on Sunday including an eight-point drive in a two-minute drill where he threw for the touchdown and ran for the conversion.

Head coach Shane Steichen isn't hyping his quarterback, but he's not doing anything to slow down the momentum either.

“I thought he had a heck of a day today,” said Steichen. “He was really solid, made some big time throws. Obviously the two-minute drive, threw a nice touchdown right there in the end zone, and then the two-point play that he ran in, it was pretty good to see.”

Members of the Colts' press brigade have noticed a new comfort level in Richardson and asked when the switch went on.

"I think when you get repetitions and you do things more and more, you’re going to get more comfortable. I think he’s gaining confidence with the system and gaining confidence with his teammates."

"When you have that, and you have the talent that he has, it’s usually a good thing."

Steichen is impressed with how quickly Richardson is adapting to the NFL game, especially the two-minute drill with the different rules from college.

"Just the operation of it," said Steichen. "In college the clock always stops when you get a first down. So [in the NFL] you’re on the ball, there’s so many different situations that come out."

"We’ve been talking about them through the meeting rooms, and they show up. We had one last week that we showed in the meeting room, a game-like situation, and it came up on the practice field."

“He was operating at a high level today.”

The Colts play the Buffalo Bills in their first preseason game on Saturday. Steichen isn't ready to disclose his plan for his quarterback rotation.

“We’re still working through that," said Steichen on Sunday. "We’ll get that decision made probably mid-week or later in the week."

It's a good bet Richardson will see plenty of work against the Bills on Saturday, and it will be interesting to see if he can carry the positive momentum from practice to Buffalo.
