Colts to Host Mountainous Offensive Tackle Dawand Jones

The Indianapolis Colts have a top-30 visit scheduled with Ohio State offensive tackle prospect Dawand Jones.

With the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in the books, teams will begin to set up times to meet with prospects individually. Each team is given 30 visits where they can have the prospect physically in their facility.

The Indianapolis Colts have their first reported top-30 visit prospect in tackle Dawand Jones out of Ohio State, according to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network.

Ben Davis's Dawand Jones (54) powers to the basket for two points while being defended by Center Grove's Spencer Piercefield (10) and Justin DeGraaf (13) during the 4A Boys Indiana Semi-State Basketball Tournament at the Hatchet House in Washington, Ind., Saturday afternoon. Ds31619semistatebkb45

Before Jones was mauling defenders in the Big 10, he was a two-sport Indiana high school stand-out at Ben Davis High School, playing basketball and football. Yes, you read that right; the 6’8," 374-pound tackle from Ohio State held his own on the hardwood as well.

Jones is an offensive line prospect that will be highly sought after with a projection to go early on Day 2 with a chance to slide into the end of the first round come April. His size makes him nearly impossible to beat in the run game. Jones' massive frame and utter strength are too much for the average defender to combat on the outside.

While his size assists him in the run game, it may hold him back in the passing game. The level of athletes that will line up on the outside will be ready to test Jones’ speed off the line and try and beat him around the outside. This could be a reason that some teams across the league could see him as a better fit at the guard position, which could make the list of teams interested in Jones long. His size didn't negatively affect his pass protection in 2022, as Jones did not allow a sack the entire 2022 season and only let up 5 pressures.
