The Colts' most Underrated Player According to PFF

The Indianapolis Colts had plenty of underachieving stars in 2022, but this breakout player went under the radar according to PFF.

The Indianapolis Colts entered the 2022 season with high hopes and plenty of star power.

Unfortunately most of those stars including the likes of Jonathan Taylor, Quenton Nelson, Shaq Leonard, and Michael Pittman had varying degrees of disappointing seasons. 

However, it wasn't all bad for the Colts in 2022 and some young players emerged from the shadows like third-year cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. 

Rodgers entered last season with just one start to his name. He finished the season with nine starts and was the Colts most underrated player according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).

When on the field, Rodgers has provided the Colts with consistently solid play since they drafted him out of Massachusetts in the sixth round back in 2020. Over 434 snaps last season, the third-year pro posted his third straight season with an overall grade north of 70.0 and set a new career best with an 81.5 coverage grade. Out of 106 cornerbacks who saw at least 250 coverage snaps in 2022, Rodgers ranked fifth in terms of coverage grade and third by allowing just 4.9 yards per time he was targeted in coverage. -- William Moy, PFF

The Colts are counting on Rodgers to continue his good work in 2023 with the loss of Stephon Gilmore via trade. Indianapolis also restocked the shelves in the draft with three corners selected including second-round pick Julius Brents.

Still just 25-years old, Rodgers finds himself the veteran in the cornerback room now. He picked a good time to have a breakout season for the Colts, and he'll be counted on to help lead a young, talented group of cornerbacks in 2023.
