Former Colts Participating in Super Bowl LVIII

Indianapolis Colts fans will see some familiar faces on the field during the Big Game.

This Sunday, more than 100 million people will be watching to see who comes out victorious between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.

Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs are looking to capture their third Super Bowl victory in five years. Meanwhile, the 49ers, led by head coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Brock Purdy, are looking to revenge their loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVI and secure a ring of their own.

While the Indianapolis Colts are not partaking in the action this weekend, Colts fans may notice some familiar names on the field. The 49ers have three former Colts on their roster who may become Super Bowl champions when all is said and done Sunday night.

S George Odum

George Odum spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Colts from 2018-2021. Odum became a special teams star in Indy, even being selected as a First-Team All-Pro in 2020. Odum started seven games in his final season with the Colts but could not solidify a spot in the starting lineup.

As a Colt, Odum tallied 65 games (10 starts) and registered 150 tackles, two interceptions, four forced fumbles, and four passes defensed. Odum left the Colts for the 49ers in the spring of 2022. He has yet to start a game with the Niners but continues to be a special teams ace, with a Second-Team All-Pro nod in 2022.

Odum may not see much playing time on defense on Sunday but do not be surprised if he makes some key plays on special teams for the 49ers.

OL Matt Pryor

Pryor spent two seasons with the Colts after general manager Chris Ballard traded for him before the 2021 season. Pryor played admirably in 2021 at multiple positions on the offensive line, giving the Colts confidence they could move forward with him as the starter at left tackle to begin the 2022 season. The result was the complete opposite, as Pryor struggled mightily and was relegated to the bench by midseason.

Pryor started 14 of the 33 games he played for the Colts, allowing six sacks, 27 hurries, and 39 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. Pryor joined the 49ers as a free agent in 2023 as a depth piece on the offensive line. He has appeared in six games this season, totaling 42 snaps.

Pryor likely will not see any playing time on Sunday unless an injury occurs on the offensive line. However, if he does come into the game, it will be the most important snaps of his life.

DL T.Y. McGill

T.Y. McGill is a name Colts fans probably have not heard in a long time. McGill began his career with the Colts in 2015, spending his first two years as a rotational piece on the defensive line in Indy. McGill had some impressive moments as a member of the Colts, leading to the two best years of his career.

McGill tallied 17 tackles, six tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, a forced fumble, and 15 QB hits in 25 games with the Colts. Since then, McGill has bounced around the league, logging snaps with five different teams. He joined the 49ers in 2022 and has appeared in 11 games, registering 10 tackles and a forced fumble.

McGill is currently on the 49ers practice squad and will not suit up on Sunday unless he is elevated to the active roster. However, if the 49ers come out on top, McGill will get a ring just like all of his other 49ers teammates.
