Colts Release List of 2023 Undrafted Free Agent Signees

The Indianapolis Colts have continued to add competition on both sides of the ball by signing 15 new names to the roster.

While the Indianapolis Colts were able to select a ridiculous 12 new players in the 2023 NFL draft, the building doesn’t stop there.

As of May 5, the Colts have now brought in a total of 15 undrafted free agents.

The names include:

  • LB Liam Anderson – Holy Cross
  • WR Cody Chrest – Sam Houston St.
  • CB Cole Coleman – Elon
  • G Emil Ekiyor – Alabama
  • RB Darius Hagans – Virginia St.
  • WR Johnny King – Southeast Missouri
  • G Harris LaChance – BYU
  • S Aaron Maddox – Campbell
  • LB Donavan Mutin – Houston
  • CB Tyler Richardson – Tiffin
  • DT Caleb Sampson – Kansas
  • WR Zavier Scott – Maine
  • RB Titus Swen – Wyoming
  • DE Guy Thomas – Colorado
  • WR Braxton Westfield – Carson-Newman

With so many players added and only 53 allowed on the roster when the regular season begins, there will be cuts and moves as well as transitions to new positions or the practice squad. But the plan underneath the bulk of these add-ons for the Colts is to add competition in key spots.

There are multiple wide receivers, offensive linemen, and cornerbacks that have signed as undrafted free agents. These were areas of concern for the Colts before the draft. Now with so many in the mix, they can comfortably get the right lineup. This will help the new coaching staff by bringing the best out of everyone to truly name starters.

There are also a couple of names to watch that could have an impact past just being signed. Ekiyor was anticipated to be drafted but wasn’t. He might be a fine addition to push for starting right guard. This was the most switched position on the offensive line in 2022.

Wide receiver Cody Chrest is a physical player that can help with the molding of QB Anthony Richardson. With two shorter receivers recently added in Isaiah McKenzie and Josh Downs, Chrest provides more of the downfield threat.

Lastly, there’s the do-it-all player Zavier Scott out of Maine. His tag says receiver, but he played snaps on special teams, at quarterback, and at running back, along with receiver. With all of these abilities, a coach like Shane Steichen could easily figure out a way to incorporate Scott into this potentially explosive offense.

It's tough to say what will happen with undrafted free agents. However, some can hit a ceiling that nobody expected. Could one or more of these players on the list be a diamond in the rough that the Colts were able to dig up? We’ll see as OTAs are underway.
