Colts Provide Update on Owner Jim Irsay's Health
Indianapolis Colts chairman Kalen Jackson has provided an update on owner Jim Irsay.
As the Indianapolis Colts move full-force through free agency ahead of the NFL draft, there are multiple areas to fill on the roster to be as solid as possible for the 2024 campaign. However, one question mark in recent months has been the health of owner Jim Irsay.
Through 2024, Irsay has reportedly been recovering from heart failure earlier in the year. While the Colts owner has been posting on X and providing updates, his daughter and Colts chairman, Kalen Jackson, gave a brief statement regarding her father's status on The Pat McAfee Show.
"Dad is doing better and everybody has been so kind checking on him," Jackson told McAfee. "He's a tough dude and he's getting better every day."
It's not the most insane news update, but Irsay is one of the most unique personalities in the league and is getting along well in his recovery process. He also provides energy for the entire franchise from an ownership role, one that isn’t seen much around the league.
There have been rumors in recently passed seasons of Irsay's daughters Kalen and Carlie Irsay taking over the principal ownership responsibilities, but those murmurs have not come to fruition. Irsay has been Indianapolis' CEO for 27 seasons and has a young, hungry team ready to compete in 2024 after years of ambiguity following Andrew Luck’s retirement in 2019.
With coach Shane Steichen and Anthony Richardson growing together in a talented AFC South division, the Colts will look to improve on their 9-8 record in 2023. With Irsay's status updates getting more positive, it will be interesting to see whether GM Chris Ballard can follow suit with the development of this team in free agency and the upcoming draft.
