30 Days of Colts' Fits: Tyler Scott, WR, Cincinnati

In this story:
The 2023 NFL Draft is officially just a month away. In order to help you all along until draft day, I decided to start a daily prospect spotlight series to talk about some players that the Colts could target next month.
The players mentioned in this series will be players that I have either heard that the team is really high on or are players that just make way too much sense for the team based on fit/past draft history.
First up on the countdown to Draftmas is Cincinnati WR Tyler Scott.
Background
Scott is a former three star recruit that chose to attend Cincinnati over Indiana and Rutgers out of high school. He was part of a loaded 2020 recruiting class at Cincinnati, as he had to compete with seven new faces in the wide receiver room alone.
He persevered and finally got his chance to shine as a sophomore in 2021. He starred as both a starting receiver and a special teamer that season for the Bearcats. He totaled 30 receptions for 520 yards and five touchdowns on offense while also tallying four tackles on special teams.
When the 2022 season came around, Scott was firmly entrenched as the team's starting wide receiver. His production, as a result, exploded. He finished the year with 55 receptions for 904 yards and nine touchdowns in his final season at college. He earned Second Team All-AAC honors for his strong season.
Off of the field, Scott was named to the Feldman's Freaks list prior to the 2022 season:
Pretty cool answer on transferring track speed to the football field from Cincinnati WR Tyler Scott. Gave a reference to Usain Bolt having long speed but stressed the importance of hitting top speed quickly. pic.twitter.com/DtQ192ICvq

Ability on Film
Scott may be an historical outlier for what the Colts' typically draft at the wide receiver position, but there is no denying that he has insane athletic ability. He averaged 16.8 yards per catch over the past two seasons, solidifying himself as one of the best deep threats in this entire class.
Scott is by no means a limited receiver, but his instant impact in the NFL will be his ability to win deep. He understands how to work vertically and he uses his suddenness and overall speed to pull away from defenders over the top.
This clip below perfectly encapsulates what he brings as a downfield threat. He explodes past the safety on the skinny post for a quick 84 yard touchdown on the first play of the game.

While Scott was primarily used as a downfield option in college, there is so much more potential in his game. He may not be the most precise route runner (for now) but he is so sudden and quick in and out of his cuts.
If he gets to a team with a good wide receiver coach, we could be looking at one of the better route runners in the league in a few seasons. For now at least, he should be able to kill teams on comebacks and digs after he sells his vertical speed.

Fit with the Colts/Team Interest
The Indianapolis Colts are moving to a vertical passing offense with the hiring of Shane Steichen. While the team did go out and add a speedster in Isaiah McKenzie, they could use another young pass catcher to take the top off of defenses.
Scott is far from the type that the Colts usually fall in love with, but the team will overlook size concerns if the player has a special trait. For instance, I can say with confidence that the Colts nearly selected Skyy Moore in the second round of last year's draft. Moore was a smaller player as well, standing in at only 5'9" 195 pounds.
When it comes to Scott, there is way too many Colts' connections to ignore. Current Special Teams Coordinator Brian Mason coached at Cincinnati from 2020-2021 and specifically took Scott for special teams. Colts' wide receiver Alec Pierce also played alongside Scott for two seasons and spoke highly of the young pass catcher with scouts after the season.
Scott has also drawn the interest of the Colts in other ways. He met with scout Mike Lacy and Wide Receivers Coach Reggie Wayne at the NFL Combine and the Colts did have scouts on hand at the Cincinnati Pro Day this year.
Overall, Scott has the potential to be a special deep threat in the NFL. With Shane Steichen wanting to air the ball out more in Indy, Scott could be a phenomenal fit on day two of the draft.
