The Indianapolis Colts have finally found their new head coach, as the team announced a deal with Philadelphia Eagles' Offensive Coordinator Shane Steichen on Tuesday afternoon.

The long-awaited head coach search ended up landing on one of the top candidates during the cycle. On paper, this is a home run hire for a team that desperately needed it. The Colts' busy offseason is far from over though, as the next step for Indy is filling out a strong staff around the first time head coach.

Steichen is bound to bring along some Philadelphia assistants with him to the Colts, but could also snag some other people with connections to him this offseason? Free agency is right around the corner and the Colts would be wise to pair Steichen up with some free agents that have played under him in the past.

So today, let's look at 5 free agents on offense that have played under Shane Steichen in his 12-year coaching career:

Philadelphia Eagles' Free Agents with Steichen Ties

Gardner Minshew, Quarterback (2021-2022 under Steichen)

The worst kept secret in the NFL this offseason is that the Colts will be selecting a quarterback in the top four of this upcoming NFL Draft. Even with that being the case, the team could still use a backup quarterback that is familiar with Shane Steichen's offensive system and coaching style.

Gardner Minshew has always been a productive player when given the chance, as he has a career completion percentage of 62.8% and a TD/INT ratio of 44/15 in 32 games played. With the Colts needing to overhaul their entire quarterback room this offseason, Minshew could be a great backup option to provide insurance behind the new rookie starter.

Isaac Seumalo, Right Guard (2021-2022 under Steichen)

One of the main pillars of success for the Philadelphia Eagles under Steichen was their dominant offensive line. Superstars like Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson were a major part of that, but Seumalo has also been a mainstay on that elite unit over the past few seasons.

He was drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft and became a full fledged starter back in 2019. He was a vital piece of the Eagles' top rushing attack this past season, holding down the fort at right guard. With the Colts wanting to rebuild this once-dominant OL in Indy (and having a major need at RG), Seumalo seems like a perfect fit for the team in free agency.

Boston Scott, Running Back (2021-2022 under Steichen)

The Colts are currently looking pretty good at running back going into 2023, as Jonathan Taylor looks to return after a down season in 2022. Zach Moss and Deon Jackson are more than capable backs behind him, so it may seem a bit odd to throw a running back on this list.

If we know anything about the Eagles' rushing attack though, it's that they love to use running backs in waves. The Eagles' used a variety of running backs with different rushing styles to carve up opposing defenses in 2022. If the Colts want to add an elusive and quick back to the mix for this next season, Boston Scott could be an interesting cheaper option to add.

Los Angeles Chargers' Free Agents with Steichen Ties

Donald Parham, Tight End (2020 under Steichen)

The Colts appear to be fairly set at tight end going into next season, as the team will return a trio of players in Kylen Granson, Jelani Woods, and Drew Ogletree. If the Colts do end up moving on from Mo Alie-Cox (in order to save a little over two million dollars in doing so), Donald Parham could make sense to round out the unit.

Parham's career has been moderately productive up to this point, as he has a total of 44 receptions for 502 yards and seven touchdowns in his three year career. He would be far from a flashy signing, but Parham could be a cheap low-risk/high-reward type of deal in free agency for the Colts.

Keenan Allen, Wide Receiver (2014-2020 under Steichen)

Okay, so technically Keenan Allen isn't a free agent this offseason, but there have been some rumblings that the Chargers could move on from the veteran receiver. Daniel Popper of The Athletic mentioned that the Pro Bowl receiver could be on the chopping block with the Chargers currently 20 million dollars over the cap for 2023.

If the Chargers do look to trade/cut Allen, the Colts seem like an obvious destination. Allen is entering the twilight of his career, but he is still a proven wideout when he is healthy. His long-standing relationship with Shane Steichen could lure this star player to the Colts this offseason.
