The NFL Draft is quickly approaching. With only a month and a half until the big day, the Indianapolis Colts have been linked to quarterbacks in the first round. However, the defensive back position is getting thin at depth for Indy.

This is even more true now that former Colts corner Stephon Gilmore was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a compensatory fifth-round pick for 2023. General manager Chris Ballard will likely need to sign and draft to fill the vacancies at cornerback.

Just as the Gilmore deal went down, Ryan Fowler of the Draft Network reported that the Colts would meet with one of the more talked-about cornerbacks in the upcoming selection process; the University of Georgia’s Kelee Ringo.

This isn’t a top-30 visit, but it’s significant for Indianapolis, given the trades and the need for more defensive talent in the secondary. It’s also important that Ringo is a defender that Ballard would likely want.

With a 6’2” frame and 207 pounds to go with it, it’s not a shocker if the Colts have Ringo on their board. He is an athletic freak that can move from sideline to sideline and hustle for big defensive plays.

Ringo is also a mere 20 years old (will be 21 in Week 1). This stands out because he can be developed early and to his prime performance sooner.

During his time as a Georgia Bulldog, he played two full seasons (2021-2022). In that 29-game span, he compiled 76 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 15 passes defended. He has room to grow, but that isn’t a bad thing for a team like the Colts that want to develop a potential star cornerback.

One downside is the torn labrum he suffered in 2020 that would redshirt him. This injury seemed to shake off, however. Ringo would play full seasons to follow the season-ending setback, so there is reason to believe he’s possibly moved on entirely from it.

Ringo is a solid prospect with a lot of hype around what he could become. With a Colts team that may effectively lose Kenny Moore II to trade, it is more important than ever for Ballard to be searching deep into the confines of draft day to bolster his DB room. Will Ringo be called to Indy? There is indeed a chance.
