The Indianapolis Colts remained active on Day 2 of free agency as they elected to trade corner Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2023 fifth-round pick, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Gilmore signed with the Colts last offseason to a two-year, $23 million dollar deal. The veteran took over the team's top corner spot after struggling the year prior with the Carolina Panthers, where he wasn't fully recovered from a previous injury.

However, this year, Gilmore put up a season with the Colts where he started 16 games and had 2 interceptions. His season in Indianapolis showed teams across the league that Gilmore still could play at a high level. The Colts, though are looking toward a potential rebuild, so moving the veteran corner makes sense, and Gilmore gets to pair up with the young star corner Trevon Diggs to form one of the best duos in the NFL.

The Colts now will hold three fifth-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. This move could potentially mean the team is exploring the trade or release of other veterans to create more cap space to fill multiple needs on the roster.

The hole left at cornerback for the Colts is significant as the team now only has three corners on their roster in Kenny Moore II, Isaiah Rodgerts, and Dallis Flowers. Along with the fifth-rounder, the Colts also gained $9.9M in cap space, according to Zak Keefer of The Atheltic.
