The Indianapolis Colts were early favorites to trade up to take a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL Draft.

Instead, they remained patient and took Anthony Richardson who had the most upside of any quarterback in the draft.

The question about Richardson was how early he could adapt to the pro game after limited experience and mixed results as a one-season starter with the Florida Gators.

Early returns have been good including the latest report from ESPN.

Consistency was always the biggest concern for Richardson coming into the NFL draft. And that has proved to be a fair assessment throughout spring practices as he works to perfect his mechanics. But what also stands out are the physical gifts Richardson brings. "It's crazy," linebacker Zaire Franklin said. "Even just in the walkthrough against him, it's like, 'OK, when [No.] 5's in there, you've just got to be aware.' It's just like a whole other element to an offense that you don't necessarily have to think about with more of a traditional quarterback."

Look for the Colts to lean into Richardson's running ability from day one -- whether he's the starter or not. -- Stephen Holder, ESPN

Franklin refers to the obvious physical presence and ability Richardson has that made him such a tantalizing prospect.

Richardson measured 6'3 3/4" and 244 pounds with a 4.43 forty and 40.5" vertical leap at the NFL Combine. Richardson's relative athletic score (RAS) as compared to other quarterback was a perfect 10.0.

That he pegged the meter relative to quarterbacks isn't surprising, but his RAS is also a perfect 10.0 against wide receivers

Richardson's athleticism will get him on the field quickly for the Colts this season. His passing ability will keep him there.
