Washington Commanders 'Got to be Better!' After Miami Dolphins Blowout, Says Sam Howell

The Washington Commanders' season is in freefall, and quarterback Sam Howell says the team must continue improving.

The Washington Commanders' season is tasting rather sour right now as the team sits at 4-9 after yet another blowout loss, this time at the hands of the Miami Dolphins 45-15.

The Commanders were blown off the field by Tyreek Hill and the Miami offense in the first half, as the 31-7 scoreline at halftime made for grim reading.

Quarterback Sam Howell, who himself had another poor outing, says the team has a lot to play for and that they must strive to improve in the remaining weeks.

“Yeah, it's been a tough couple of weeks," Howell said. "We’ve got to do things better offensively, and you know, it starts with me. I got to play better football, and we just got to continue to try to get better. Obviously, we're getting towards the end here this season, but we still got a lot to play for. We're going to keep giving it everything we got. But now it starts with me. I’ve got to play better and got to try to continue to get everybody involved and, you know, get into more of a rhythm early in games and not dig ourselves into a hole. But we just got to be better.”

The Commanders' offense, in the last three weeks, has failed to score more than 19 points as they have stuttered and stumbled along to the tune of a four-game losing streak.

Washington quarterback Sam Howell says the team needs to play better with their season spiraling at 4-9.

But defensively, things haven't been great either, as it is now back-to-back weeks of conceding 45 points, which is unacceptable.

And defensive tackle Jonathan Allen has had enough of the poor play.

“Wasn’t a very good defense," Allen said. "Can’t stop the run, can’t stop the pass.”

When asked if these games build character in the locker room, Allen wasn't pulling any punches.

“Yeah, I’ve been dealing with this for seven years," he said. "I'm tired of trying to build character. My character has been built up enough. I'm trying to win.”

Looking at Washington's remaining schedule, there might not be many wins as the Los Angeles Rams, New  York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and the Dallas Cowboys are in their sights.

It is a tough end to the season, but the only way is up, right?
