Justin Fields Trade Rumors: Commanders In After Kirk Cousins Signs with Falcons?

Is Bears quarterback Justin Fields a discount veteran who the Commanders should trade for?

Free agency has begun, and with that has come some major movement among starting quarterbacks, but there remains one starter that the Washington Commanders could target.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is rumored to be on his way out of the organization now that the team has the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. Should the Commanders send an offer for the talented young quarterback?

Washington is rumored to be interested in getting a new quarterback to replace last year's starter, Sam Howell, but veterans such as Kirk Cousins already agreed to deals with other teams yesterday during the start of the NFL's free agency tampering period.

That leaves the Commanders with two options: draft a quarterback or trade for Fields. The Bears have been at a disadvantage for quite some time when it comes to moving Fields because the league has known that Chicago intends to draft Caleb Williams No. 1 overall, which has cost the organization any leverage in trade negotiations.

Fields was once thought to have multiple suitors that could start a bidding war for his talents this offseason, but the most commonly linked team to him was his hometown team, the Atlanta Falcons, who just spent big money to land Cousins.

Now, it seems hard to imagine that Fields could command anything higher than a third-round pick in a trade package for him, considering that the only teams potentially in the market for his services are the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos because neither franchise seems to be drafting high enough to land a premiere quarterback in this year's draft.

It doesn't seem like Washington is making it a priority to land Fields, considering that the organization still holds the No. 2 overall pick, but don't be surprised if the team checks in with the Bears to see just how cheap of an investment it may be to land him and potentially flip its No. 2 pick for a big return to surround him with talent.
