Commanders' Dan Quinn Reveals Biggest Accomplishment in Short Coaching Tenure

The Washington Commanders have addressed many areas, but there's one where coach Dan Quinn feels they've done the most.

ORLANDO -- The Washington Commanders have done a lot in less than three months time as they continue the process of completely re-tooling the look, feel, and staffing of the team.

While the general manager and coaching hires are critically important it's the players the Commanders have been signing who will ultimately become the images of success or failure for this new regime.

And as he looks back on the first 50 days or so coach Dan Quinn has one area of his Washington squad he feels he and GM Adam Peters have accomplished the most.

“I think really, probably I would say the front seven," coach Quinn said from the NFL's Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. "Like that was one of the areas that we wanted to address and so some of the offensive line, the defensive ends, the linebackers...But that was really where I thought this whole process would be about between free agency and the draft and how those two things could mesh together. And so step one of that has taken place and now the second step of that begins from the draft and post-draft the college free agents and how does all that come together? So, I'm really excited to get rolling with the players for a few weeks, get on the field some with them prior to the draft and that'll help put the whole thing together.”

The Commanders are expected to attend the LSU Pro Day on March 27th, the day after the closing of the meetings in Florida, to see quarterback Jayden Daniels up close and personal.

Quinn said after the meetings conclude his full focus will turn to draft preparation as he, the coaches, and the entire staff that will help make key decisions this April shift into deep study mode until the big weekend.

A collaboration of intelligent football minds is what will drive the decisions moving forward just as they have thus far. And that includes deciding what to do with the No. 2 overall pick and who might be the future quarterback in Washington.

“As you guys all know, it's not like that comes in one size fits all," Quinn said. "And so, I think the best of the best can find out what strengths a person has at any position and make sure you can tailor some things suited just for that person...knowing what somebody's real strengths are and how do you max those out.”

It feels like it's around the corner but the NFL Draft is actually a month away, and there are a lot of hours to get things done in that time period.

Coach Quinn is looking forward to tackling the next phase of building his team, and appears confident they've already made great strides in one of the most important parts of any squad by heavily addressing the Commanders' front seven.
