NFL Mock Draft: Commanders Duo Would 'Impact' Both Offense and Defense

When looking at the NFL Draft it's important the Washington Commanders consider which prospects may be available to them in the second round, when making their first round pick.

The Washington Commanders know one thing about the NFL Draft and that's the fact that there is going to be some solid talent available for them to add to the roster in the first round of this year's selection meeting.

Oftentimes, the answer of who the pick should be is clear to fans and media, and questions about why a team like the Commanders may use their full allotted time are brought up.

Drafting is all about projecting player talent, and also player availability.

And making the first pick is as much about the talent you get there as it is about what talent you might have available in the second.

For Washington, Illinois Fighting Illini cornerback Devon Witherspoon in the first, and Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave in the second, present the team's best draft duo this year according to NFL.com.

"The Commanders get impact players at two positions of need in this simulation," says NFL.com. "Witherspoon mixes it up with receivers in the slot and outside despite his slender build...while Musgrave is an athletic target who can attack multiple levels of the defense. Washington would lean on these two young talents for the next few years."

Witherspoon was a popular pick for the Commanders in early mock drafts, but his stock in the eye of the media had seemed to rise into the top 10 of the NFL Draft for much of the last month.

Now that we're mere weeks away, it appears some believe the talented defensive back could fall again, right into the waiting arms of Washington's talented defense.

Musgrave is a talented tight end who would immediately boost the talent at the top of the tight end room, and provide a likely successor to current starter Logan Thomas when the time comes that he needs to be replaced.

Witherspoon and Musgrave would form a solid draft duo for Washington and address some of its needs.

Meanwhile, the Commanders would be leaving the door open for more picks in the talent-rich middle rounds where plenty of running backs and other talented players await the news of where their NFL careers will begin.
