Commanders Free Agency: 4 Targets to Sign From Wild Card Playoffs

The Washington Commanders are observers this postseason but some of those playing the games could head this way in the offseason.

The Washington Commanders sat in amazement with most of us as we watched the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams sent packing while the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers advanced to the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs on Sunday.

As we did for Saturday's batch of games, we're taking a Commanders free agency look at all four teams and one player the franchise could target this offseason.

Here are four players with expiring contracts that Washington could target this offseason.

GREEN BAY PACKERS: DARNELL SAVAGE, SAFETY

Savage grew up in the area and played collegiately as a member of the Maryland Terrapins football program.

Since joining the NFL as a 1st Round pick in the 2019 draft Savage has never made a Pro Bowl but has started 10 or more games in each of his five seasons.

On Sunday Savage came up with a key interception against Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott which he returned for a touchdown.

The play was one many considered the proverbial nail in the coffin despite the fact it came before halftime.

DALLAS COWBOYS: TONY POLLARD, RUNNING BACK

There are those who will never support a member of this roster joining the Commanders, but there are even more Cowboys fans who would hate to see Pollard jump to the other side of this rivalry.

Gone are the days when NFL teams can rely on just one running back to carry the full workload so Pollard should enter free agency looking for an opportunity to combine with another ball-carrier who compliments his own talents well.

Brian Robinson Jr. is a player many who watched Washington this season thought should get more work, but not so much that he gets run into the ground either.

If the Commanders don't bring back Antonio Gibson, Pollard is another Memphis Tigers product the team could use as a compliment to Robinson Jr.

DETROIT LIONS: CRAIG REYNOLDS, RUNNING BACK

One of the lesser-known players on the Lions roster because of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, Reynolds is a player who started in Washington but has since moved on to other teams to carve out his NFL career.

A return to the franchise could be in order as the Commanders' new coaching staff looks to flesh out a backfield capable of supporting what many expect to be a rookie starting at quarterback in 2024.

LOS ANGELES RAMS: AHKELLO WITHERSPOON, CORNERBACK

If Washington sticks with a zone-heavy defensive scheme with this new staff then Witherspoon is a player worth considering this offseason.

He's bounced around a bit from the San Francisco 49ers to the Pittsburgh Steelers and then to the Rams, but he's been solid in his final stop so far.

This season he matched his career high with three interceptions and earned a 73.7 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus.
