Commanders Interview Had 'Great Vibe' For Michigan's J.J. McCarthy

The Washington Commanders hold the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft and with interviews being conducted at the Scouting Combine, Michigan's J.J. McCarthy had detailed how his meeting with the franchise went.

The Washington Commanders have their pick of the entire NFL Draft with the No. 2 overall selection. With the consensus that the franchise will select a new quarterback to begin the new era in the nation's capital, the question is who?

Caleb Williams is thought to be going No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears, which leaves the Commanders to pick from Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix just to name a few.

With the Commanders doing their due diligence at the Scouting Combine, Michigan's McCarthy has given insight into how his meeting with Dan Quinn and Co. played out, while also adding what did he like about it.

"Just the overall energy," McCarthy said via Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. "It was my first one, so I was like super nervous I'm not going to lie. I was sweating a little bit. Coach Quinn was just awesome. I got to talk to Mr. Peters (Washington's general manager) right before the meeting. Just a great vibe, very welcoming. Going through clips and everything. Coach Kliff Kingsbury was just like, 'Hey, if you get a matchup out here and you really like it, could you just switch it to a go on the outside?' I told him 'I wish.' Just little stuff like that. It was just great to meet them. Great to talk ball with them. I had a lot of fun doing it."

In his three college seasons for the Wolverines, McCarthy threw for a total of 6,226 yards, 49 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions, so the numbers don't jump off the page, but that was more due to the Wolverines wanting to play complementary football, so he wasn't asked to consistently throw it 30+ times in a game (just three times last year).

McCarthy has all the arm talent needed to make every throw on the field, but not only that, he is super accurate, which in the NFL, is a necessity.

So while not many have the Commanders taking McCarthy in several mock drafts, the meeting between the two had a "good vibe." Whether that translates to the franchise taking the Michigan quarterback is unknown, but the pair do appear to have hit it off at the Combine.
