Washington Commanders' Sam Howell on His Future - 'I Don't Worry About It!'

The Washington Commanders are projected to have a top draft pick after this season and with a host of quarterbacks set to be taken high, Sam Howell's future could come into question - but he's not worried one bit.

The Washington Commanders' season hasn't gone the way the organization had hoped. Sitting at 4-9 after 13 weeks, the Commanders are in freefall.

But while there are still four regular season games to go, attention might turn to the NFL Draft as the Commanders' playoff hopes are all but shot.

As it stands, Washington is slated to have the fourth overall pick in the draft, and with a host of quarterbacks in Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Bo Nix, Heisman winner Jayden Daniels, and Michael Penix Jr., the Commanders could have a decision to make at the quarterback position.

But what would that mean for Sam Howell if the Commanders took a quarterback early in the draft? It would mean his days as a starter might be over, but he isn't worried about it one bit.

“I don't worry about it," Howell said. "I think for me, I try to control what I can control, and I try to take it one day at a time and I try to put my best foot forward and truly give this job, give this team, this organization every single thing that I got every single day. That's what I'll continue to do. Whatever happens, happens, but I try to control what I can control and try to play my best and try to make those decisions easier. But at the end of the day, it is what it is. I just got to try to keep doing what I can, keep trying to lead this football team, and keep trying to get some wins.”

There's no doubt that Howell has shown plenty this season despite the Commanders' poor record and for some, which includes defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, Howell could be the franchise's quarterback for the next 10 years.

But when there are potential star quarterbacks in the draft, Washington could move on from Howell. The NFL is a brutal business and despite Howell's improvement that might not be enough to sway the decision-makers.

With four games left in Washington's season, Howell is doing all that he can do - focusing on playing good football and trying to finish the season on a high.

Washington looks near certain to have a high pick in the upcoming draft, there will be serious deliberation as to which direction the franchise goes.

Stick with Howell and draft another talented weapon to put around him? Or potentially get a generation quarterback for the next 10-15 years.

Either way, Howell isn't worried about what might happen, he just wants to win football games.
