Commanders QB's Sam Howell And Jacoby Brissett Relationship 'Best I've Seen,' Says Ron Rivera

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is liking the dynamic he is seeing from his quarterback room this offseason.

As the saying goes, if you have two quarterbacks, you have none, but for the Washington Commanders, having Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett is working thus far.

Brissett has had to bide his time with Howell getting the first crack as the starting position. Undoubtedly, the former Cleveland Browns signal caller will get his turn in the sun, but he isn't making waves. Instead, he has been that player Howell can lean on and also learn from.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera has praised the duo's relationship thus far in OTA's and minicamp and loves what the group is doing.

"It's really cool because you watch the cooperation between the quarterbacks and not just those two, but all of them," Rivera said. "And Jacoby's -- one thing everybody says about him is this dude's a great teammate, and when you watch him, you watch how he handles his communications with Sam after plays, after certain things happening, you can tell that this is a legit team guy.

"He's trying to help Sam as much as possible. And then you watch Sam, and Sam is encouraging and giving praise to Jacoby as well as the other guys, and that is what you want. You want a good room where you know that there is a lot of cooperation and everybody's pulling for one another, and there's not a split dynamic between them. That's really been probably the best thing I've seen."

The Commanders have put all their eggs in the Howell basket, and while there have been detractors of the move, Washington feels confident in the second-year quarterback's potential.

There will no doubt be ups and downs as Howell gets used to not only being a starter for the first time but also Eric Bieniemy's offense. There will be a steep learning curve.

And that is why the acquisition of Brissett has been seen as a great one.

Quarterback battles or controversies can take on a life of their own and divide a locker room, but with Howell and Brissett having such a good relationship, Washington's quarterback room feels more settled than ever.
