Commanders' Sam Howell, Jacoby Brissett 'Playing Their Tails Off!'

The Washington Commanders quarterback battle doesn't yet have a clear winner, but Eric Bieniemy has been impressed with the work the group has done thus far.

The Washington Commanders quarterback battle is entering its final stages. With training camp edging closer to a conclusion, the coaching staff is getting a clearer picture of the race for the starting job.

Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett have been going toe-to-toe all camp, with both having their moments in the sun and for coordinator Eric Bieniemy, the quarterback room has been giving as good as they get against Jack Del Rio's stout defense.

"There's been some highs and lows, and you don't ever want camp to be one-sided," Bieniemy said. "Obviously, we probably got our ass kicked that day. Our guys are working hard. I think the quarterback position, [QB] Jacoby [Brissett] and [QB] Sam [Howell] have been playing their tails off, Jake Fromm as well."

With three preseason games now on the schedule, with Washington set to face the Cleveland Browns first up, attention now turns to who will get the first crack at impressing the coaching staff.

Given there is still over a month to go before Week 1 of the regular season, many expect both Howell and Brissett to see a fair bit of game time.

For Bieniemy, he's looking forward to seeing how the offensive group as a whole works together.

“I'll say this first and foremost, we're going to have that discussion on [QB] playtime with coach," Bieniemy said. "But I mean, just like anything and everything, we all need work. All of our guys need to go out and play against a different opponent. Let's see what we can do collectively together.”

After the grind of training camp, now comes another chance for players to stake their claim for a roster spot, and for Howell and Brissett, its a chance to show Bieniemy and Ron Rivera that they are the guys to pitch the wagon to this season.
