Commanders WR Terry McLaurin: ‘It’s a Great Day’

Speaking to Washington Commanders fans at a pep rally in FedEx Field receiver Terry McLaurin and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen let the crowd know they feel their excitement.

LANDOVER, Md. — The day has arrived and the Washington Commanders are now under the proud ownership of Josh Harris and a group of investors that include businessman Mitch Rales and NBA Legend Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson.

The new owners met with media and a crowd of invited audience members in the club level of FedEx Field joined by team president Jason Wright and coach Ron Rivera among others, but the biggest party was happening downstairs in Legends Plaza where fans were enjoying a pep rally with two surprise guests.

“It’s a great day to be a Commander,” star receiver Terry McLaurin said to the crowd of fans in attendance. “It’s a great day to be a fan of Washington. I just got to meet with the new ownership group and you guys should be excited for the future here. It starts on Tuesday and we’re excited.”

With the sale of Washington’s NFL franchise finalized and closed on Friday the message of the day was turning the page to a new era of football in D.C.

One that will could bring back familiar feelings from the heyday of sports in the DMV when burgundy and gold reigned supreme.

While the victory felt by many today won’t register in the win column, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen told the fans he believes the recent developments will help awaken the league’s most passionate fan base.

“I’ve waited seven years to see the fan base like this,” Allen said. “I don’t think people understand how serious this community and this fan base is about football. People really don’t know…we’re going to really show the world something this year.

One result of the revved up fans is the Commanders season and home opener in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals is nearly sold out according to Wright.

Now that the day has come and Washington finally has a reason to hope again, perhaps that game will be at max capacity by kickoff.

And if all goes well, it’s just the start to something new and exciting growing inside the Commanders franchise.
