Washington Commanders vs. New York Giants: 3 Interesting Postgame Notes

The Washington Commanders lost 14-7 to the New York Giants in Week 7 of the NFL season.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Washington Commanders dropped their fourth game of the year losing 14-7 to the New York Giants.

The loss was the Commanders' second of the season against an NFC East Division opponent and while they still currently sit in third place in the grouping hopes for a playoff run are dwindling fast.

As they do after every game, Washington's public relations staff sent out some interesting bits of information, and we've compiled the most interesting here for you.

SACKED AND BE SACKED

The Commanders defense sacked Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor four times in Week 7 marking the sixth time this season they've done so to an opposing team's passer at least three times.

It's the first time in franchise history a Washington defense has done this and it was defensive end Chase Young who led the way with two while fellow defensive end Montez Sweat contributed one and linebacker Khaleke Hudson added another.

With those, Young notched his first two-sack game in his career and currently has five, just two and a half shy of tying his single-season best.

Meanwhile, quarterback Sam Howell was sacked six times despite New York's defense having just five total coming into the weekend.

Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young (99) sacks New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor (2) in the second half at MetLife Stadium.

SCARY GOOD

Receiver Terry McLaurin didn't get his first catch until midway through the third quarter but still finished with six of them and 90 yards of offense.

Those yards pushed him passed the 4,700-yard mark for his career, and clearing that in just 70 career games makes him the fastest player to do so in franchise history.

McLaurin now has 4,713 yards receiving and passed tight end Chris Cooley for ninth all-time in franchise history.

AN ABSOLUTE DUDE

Punter Tress Way tied a career high punting the ball 10 times in Sunday's loss.

The 513 yards he punted for set a new career-high while averaging 51.3 yards per punt and forcing New York to start inside its own 20-yard line four times.

He also got a social media shoutout from All-Pro teammate, safety Jeremy Reaves.

Look at them as silver linings or as footnotes to highlight in an otherwise dim afternoon of Commanders football.

Washington will take the field again in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles looking to put more milestones in the record books while notching its fourth win of the year.
