Commanders Coach Ron Rivera Offers 'Goodbye Goof-Up' to Owner Dan Snyder

We bet we can assume that Ron Rivera and company are joining the rest of the world of Commanders watchers in hoping the 24-year run of Dan Snyder, plagued by losing and by scandals and by mistakes of a magnitude almost infinitely greater than Rivera's accidental word choice, would hurry up and go away.

In this story:

Fans of the Washington Commanders cannot be blamed for waiting impatiently for the departure of owner Daniel Snyder as he is on the verge of officially selling the franchise.

And maybe coach Ron Rivera is a bit impatient as well.

During a weekend NFL Draft wrap-up press conference, Rivera's remarks were obviously largely focused on Washington's draft haul. But at one point, as relayed by 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen, the head coach made a reference to Dan and wife Tanya Snyder, accidentally labeling them as the team's "former ownership."

It took only a moment for the boss to quickly amend his definition of the Snyders' role, referring to them as the "current" owners.

Any damage done by Rivera's error? Of course not; at this point, all Dan Snyder wants is his $6 billion or so, the sales price due from a group led by Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris. ... and we doubt even purposeful insults matter much any more.

But this gaffe probably does suggest a mindset inside the Commanders organization. We bet we can assume that Rivera and company are not only expecting a deal to get done - there are suggestions that it could all be finalized this month - but also joining the rest of the world of Commanders watchers in hoping the 24-year run of Dan Snyder, plagued by losing and by scandals and by mistakes of a magnitude almost infinitely greater than Rivera's accidental word choice, would hurry up and go away.
